0 Winamp Music player (Beta) lands on the Android Market for Free

Winamp , one of the good old music player on windows has now hit the Androsphere , and is available on the Android Market freely . If you are a music freak and have tons of music players on your device you need to check this out .
Lets start with a round of applause for the Winamp’s BETA which is seriously a real competitor to stock music player and others with a perfect integration on the Android platform. Winamp’s android app developers really bring out a very good music player and we will definitely see a much better final release .
Lets talk about some of the features of Winamp :
  • Winamp Widget : Widget support was what was on my mind when i downloaded the app , and winamp didn’t disappoint me with a widget having controls like play , pause , next , previous track , shuffle toggle switch , repeat list switch , switch to full mode .
  • The App UI : The app has a Fluid interface a UI more of as Android OS with slide down bar giving easy access to different screens in Winamp
  • Direct search for Youtube videos , Internet , Winamp search from within the app for your favorite songs in playlist .
  • Seek bar is more easy to navigate compared to default music player , having a bigger scroll bar .
  • Improved Slide scroll : All lists support touch slide scroll showing alphabet categories while you scroll , along with native scrolling techniques
  • Working Headset buttons : Another surprise was Headset buttons which work fine with Winamp , but i noticed that the song keeps playing until you pickup the call , so if your phone is on silent you wont know there’s a call coming in if you dont notice the screen , which is a small bug , another minor bug is that  the call button doesnt pick up the call while playing a song in Winamp .
  • Last.fm scrobbling (requires the Last.fm app to be installed).
  • Queue your favorite songs , yes this is an awesome feature Winamp brings from its desktop version and you can enqueue any number of songs to the list .
  • Set as Ringtone : You can now set up your favorite song as your ringtone right from the player ( from the songs and not from the queue )
  • On board controls :Music Controls are always on the screen just like a music taskbar in the app , that's a nice way to play or pause your song while you manage playlists or queue songs to the enqueue list
  • Permanent Deletion : You can delete any desired song permanently from your SD card .
  • WiFi and USB music sync with Winamp on your desktop – I haven’t tested this yet, but it sounds great if it works.
  • Notification support – this is not really novel, almost all other music apps out there do this, but it’s worth a mention that Winamp too does it .
I am Stunned with this music player app and the effort Winamp’s Android developers have put in for their first version of app , and i hope its going to replace the current music app on my Android phone soon .
Even though the Winamp app lags equalizer support and has some minor bugs ,but this being Winamp’s first (Beta) release is acceptable seeing the positive aspects of the app , which will tend to be the reason people will download the app .
Feel free to suggest some new features you would love to see in the app in its final build .

 UPDATE :
  • Call button bug - doesn't lift call and no call notifications via headphone
  • Charge only mode is detected as Disk drive mode on computer ( manual selection needed every time you connect your phone )
  • If stock music player is playing one song and you press headphone button , both music player start playing songs simultaneously .
